Autocontrol y conducta desviada: Una exploración con datos Venezolanos. (Self control and deviant behaviour: An exploration with Venezuelan data)

    Get PDF
Gottfredson and Hirschi’s self-control theory is tested with adolescent Venezuelan students (n = 2354), examining the relationship between deviant behavior, self-control, age, sex, socioeconomic status, and size of settlement. The hypothesis that “low self-control increases the probability of individual and group deviance” is supported, except for drug-related behaviors. Males with low self-control show a greater probability of engaging in individual and group deviant behaviors

It is a reality the increasing number of the lumbar fusions. Clinical results show that the anteroposterior lumbar fusions achieve greater success rates than the posterolateral ones. A paper review of the different ways of lumbar fusion is carried out whit the update of the anterior column support concept. Indications and advantages: posterior, anterior and minimal invasive ones. The last spine cages used for anterior column support art classified. Advantages and drawbacks of the both approaches anterior and posterior are studied

Rights and duties of the media of communication in the promotion of gender equality

An approach that argues the need for the rights and duties of the media (and advertising) in the promotion of gender equality may become more than necessary. We would say that it is essential. Then, let us give room to reflection and analysis on realities that limit women. At its heart, the problem was that equality was not only a principle of public life but must also permeate the private sector. And the debate is served with regard to the media for their amplifying and inducting work

Gain in Stochastic Resonance: Precise Numerics versus Linear Response Theory beyond the Two-Mode Approximation

In the context of the phenomenon of Stochastic Resonance (SR) we study the correlation function, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and the ratio of output over input SNR, i.e. the gain, which is associated to the nonlinear response of a bistable system driven by time-periodic forces and white Gaussian noise. These quantifiers for SR are evaluated using the techniques of Linear Response Theory (LRT) beyond the usually employed two-mode approximation scheme. We analytically demonstrate within such an extended LRT description that the gain can indeed not exceed unity. We implement an efficient algorithm, based on work by Greenside and Helfand (detailed in the Appendix), to integrate the driven Langevin equation over a wide range of parameter values. The predictions of LRT are carefully tested against the results obtained from numerical solutions of the corresponding Langevin equation over a wide range of parameter values. We further present an accurate procedure to evaluate the distinct contributions of the coherent and incoherent parts of the correlation function to the SNR and the gain. As a main result we show for subthreshold driving that both, the correlation function and the SNR can deviate substantially from the predictions of LRT and yet, the gain can be either larger or smaller than unity. In particular, we find that the gain can exceed unity in the strongly nonlinear regime which is characterized by weak noise and very slow multifrequency subthreshold input signals with a small duty cycle. This latter result is in agreement with recent analogue simulation results by Gingl et al. in Refs. [18, 19].Comment: 22 pages, 5 eps figures, submitted to PR

Tuning the program transformers from LCC to PDL

    Get PDF
This work proposes an alternative definition of the so-called program transformers used to obtain reduction axioms in the Logic of Communication and Change (LCC). Our proposal uses an elegant matrix treatment of Brzozowski’s equational method instead of Kleene’s translation from finite automata to regular expressions. The two alternatives are shown to be equivalent, with Brzozowski’s method having the advantage of generating smaller expressions for models with average connectivity

Peer reviewe
